Research experience

Final year research project at Department of Radiology, Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia (2003 – 2004)

  • Studied the image quality of computed and screen-film radiography.
  • Evaluated computer radiography systems based on AAPM TG10 guidelines.

Research assistant at Department of Biomedical Imaging, University Malaya Medical Center (2005 – 2007)

  • Performed statistical analysis on international coordinated projects:
  • [1] Quantitative evaluation and promotion of patient dose reduction approaches in interventional radiology (IAEA)
  • [2] Avoidance of unnecessary dose to patient while transitioning from analogue to digital radiology (IAEA).
  • Being an instrumental team member in conducting an online survey of children’s understanding of mobile phone and electromagnetic field (WHO).
  • Studied the image quality of computed and screen-film radiography
  • Evaluated softcopy medical displays based on AAPM TG18 guidelines.
  • Performed a multiple center study on the use of Promovist® in MRA – an animal model study.
  • Assisted resident radiologists in their research projects (statistical analysis),
  • [1] “Comparison of Resovist® enhanced MRI with 5-phase CT in detecting characterization of focal liver lesions”
  • [2] “Role of N-acetylcysteine in the prevention of contrast media induced nephropathy”
  • [3] “Correlation of MRI with plain radiographs of the wrist in the assessment of epiphyseal plate fusion to estimate skeletal age”
  • [4] “Diffusion weighted MR imaging in acute vertebral compression fractures: differentiation between malignant and benign causes” (http://www.biij.org/2006/2/e12/)

Research assistant at Carl E. Ravin Advanced Imaging Laboratories, Duke University (April 2008 – May 2010)

  • Collaborated with two radiologists in developing a simulated lung nodules study.
  • Developed a mathematical breast model to study on the effects of dose distribution and image quality in a reduced compression mammography technique.
